What is the Drone?

In aviation and in space, a drone is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV for short). The term originated from the buzzing sound they made, especially in the early days. Drones are equipped with different state of the art technology such as infrared cameras, GPS and laser (consumer, commercial and military UAV). They are controlled by remote ground control systems (GSC) and also referred to as a ground cockpit. These materials are very light weight.

Legal questions

What is the allowed weight of a drone?

Drones in KSA can’t be over { XX } kg for security reasons. All manufactures have specific weight that can be lifted using their drones.

Is it allowed to fly a drone over people or public places in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, however you need to have acquired a valid pilot license and only as part of a special requirement like law enforcement, safety or filming. If you are interested in obtaining a license you can find out more here.

Are foreign drones(UAVs) allowed to fly in the Kingdom?

Foreign-registered commercial unmanned vehicles are allowed to operate and piloted in Saudi Arabia as long as the pilots have a valid license and the drones are inside KSA regulations.
